Chelsea v Norwich Match Preview

Chelsea take on Norwich on Sunday in their final home game of the season and with their slim chance of winning the league this season it is a must win game if they want to stay in contention.

Date: Sunday, 4th May  Venue: Stamford Bridge  Kick-off: 16:00 GMT  On TV: Sky Sports 1/HD

It’s another top versus bottom game and a must win game for both sides, Norwich are still fighting for their lives in at the bottom of the league while Chelsea need to win to give themselves the best possible finish with just two games left of the season.

While Chelsea would need to win both their games and close rivals Manchester City and Liverpool to drop points to win the league it does seem nearly impossible for them to end the season with any silverware but with the twists and turns in this season anything really is possible.

Norwich come into this game with an awful run of form and with Chelsea and Arsenal as their last two games it doesn’t look to get any better for them. They have lost all 5 of their last 5 games, have lost their last 8 away games and haven’t won against Chelsea in 10 years! They did however draw 0-0 with Chelsea back in 2012 and despite their defeat against the blues back in October they were drawing in the game before Chelsea got the goals to turn the game around for Chelsea to win 3-1.

As for Chelsea they are coming into this game on the back of some mixed fortunes in games, they have lost their previous 2 games in all competitions at home despite being so strong in the league at home all season, they did however win at the weekend away from home 2-0 against title rivals Liverpool. The London side will no doubt want to get back to winning ways again at the weekend though so they should prove to be too much for Norwich, as well as wanting to give the fans a final home win for the season.

As for injuries and suspensions Ramires will of course be out for Chelsea as he is banned for the remaining games of the season meanwhile Mikel, Lampard, Mati? and Salah can all return to the team after not being able to play mid-week. John Terry, Samuel Eto’o and Eden Hazard all featured mid-week despite recently having injuries and it will remain to be seen if they will play at the weekend again or be rested before the final game of the season.

Oscar didn’t feature mid-week as he has a slight hip injury although he was on the bench if needed and will face a fitness test before deciding whether he will play at the weekend. Petr Cech is also still likely to miss out as he recovers from his injury despite being back in training during the week. Meanwhile Norwich have a full squad to pick from with Joseph Yobo returning from his recent injury.

A must win for both teams in their respective aims in the final games of the season should make for a fantastic game and with Manchester City away to four place chasers Everton the day before and Liverpool away to an in form Crystal Palace on Monday it certainly makes for an interesting weekend in this dramatic season.
