Diego Costa Deal Stalling

Two long weeks have passed since Cesc Fabregas completed his surprise mega-move to Stamford Bridge, and many believed that the heavily-anticipated signing of fellow countryman, Diego Costa, would follow imminently.

However there has been little news since, as Athletico are reporting that Chelsea officials are reluctant to meet Costa’s buy-out clause and are therefore biding their time while Mourinho contemplates his attacking options for next season.

Diego Costa is still reportedly being targeted by the Chelsea boss as the main man to spearhead his team, but recent injury problems and a poor world cup have caused his market value to drop slightly.

While this deal has stalled, the club have also been in talks with Patrick Aubameyang of Borussia Dortmund and Loic Remy of QPR who could both potentially join Chelsea at a significantly lower asking price than Costa.

Additionally, the situation of loanees like Romelu Lukaku and Patrick Bamford complicates the matter further as the Belgian powerhouse is demanding first team football following 2 seasons out on loan, while Bamford’s spectacular season at Derby is pressurising Mourinho into including an important homegrown English talent into his squad.

Lastly, there is the age-old conundrum to deal with, what to do with Fernando Torres?

The Spaniard is in the twilight of his career yet I still don’t feel that it is time for Chelsea to give up on him with his passion and talent still there in abundance, although most of the time, masked by a loss of confidence, spark and killer instinct.

Despite that, if the Costa deal is eventually finalised then I think we will see a quartet of Torres, Costa, Bamford and possibly Remy or Aubameyang available to Jose Mourinho next season at the Bridge.
