Chelsea defender sets January departure date

Papy Djilobodji has reportedly agreed terms with Turkish side Besiktas in a deal that would see the defender leave West London in January, after just three months at the club.

The Senegalese international signed for the Blues on deadline day in the summer for a reported fee of £2.7m from French side Nantes, but has only featured in a Chelsea shirt for a couple of minutes, coming on in injury time in a 4-1 Cup victory over Walsall.

There were question marks over the signing on the 26-year-old, who had allegedly been turned down by Sunderland and Norwich in the last year.

Djilobodji was not included in Jose Mourinho’s 25-man Champions League squad just a day after his move, making the deal appear even more bizarre.

Mourinho admitted it had not been his decision to sign the player, but the decision of someone he ‘trusts completely’.

The news was broken by former Besiktas sporting direcror Sinan Engin, but the deal remains speculation at this point.
