Chelsea vs Dynamo Kyiv – Match Preview

Preview

Chelsea head into match week 4 of the Champions League needing a win in order to put ourselves in a strong position to progress to the knockout stages. Wednesday nights game is huge and could define our season in the Champions League.

We go into the game as favourites but Dynamo Kyiv won’t travel to Stamford Bridge short on confidence after starting their domestic campaign well and currently sit in 2nd but level on points with leaders Shakhtar Donetsk.

Kyiv are expected to sit back at Stamford Bridge and attack Chelsea on the counter. Highly rated winger Andriy Yarmolenko will be pivotal to their attacks. If they are to get a result he will have to be on form.

In today’s press conference John Terry was the player selected to join Jose Mourinho and speak to the media. He openly backed the manager and said the team are working harder than ever for results. Hopefully we can get one tomorrow night.

Come on you Blues!

Match details

Wednesday, 4th November, kick off at 7:45 pm (UK Time), at Stamford Bridge on BT Sport 2.

Recent form and previous meetings

Chelsea go into the game as favourites despite being on poor form having lost 3 (West Ham, Stoke and Liverpool) of our last 5 games. We have drawn 1 (Dynamo Kyiv) and won (Aston Villa) the other.

In Dynamo Kyiv’s last 5 games they have won 3, drawn 1 and lost 1. Since playing against in match week 3 of the Champions League they have only played one game.

The two have only ever met each other once, this match was in Kiev a few weeks ago finishing 0-0.

Team news

Chelsea have a new injury concern in a muscular injury for Radamel Falcao which he picked up in training today. He’s expected to be out for a few weeks. Branislav Ivanovic and Pedro are also back in training with the squad but tomorrow may come too soon for either of them to start. Thibaut Courtois remains injured and he missed today’s training session as he is only taking part in light training at the moment.

My prediction

I expect Chelsea to win tomorrow night in front of our own fans. I think Dynamo Kyiv will come to sit back and not create too many chances. Despite having a poor defensive record this season I also expect us to keep a clean sheet.

My prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Dynamo Kyiv.
