Well then, how do we explain losing a winning position twice at Stamford Bridge, apart from pathetic?
Things were pretty even in the first half with both goals coming against the run of play. Chelsea taking the lead in the 20th minute when Ivanovic crossed the ball in from the right, and went straight across the face of the box and was met by our masked hero, Cesar Azpilicueta – his first goal at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea.
Chelsea went on to dominate for a brief perioud, but in the 33rd minute, Pedro lost possession in our own half, and after one or two passes, Craig Gardener had pinged the ball into the back of the net.
During the half time break, Guus Hiddink decided to take Pedro off due to the Spaniard being bullied by the WBA team. Kenedy came on for the second half, looking full of confidence.
Hiddink’s substitution paid of when Willian received the ball on the right flank, whipping in a teasing ball to the front post, where it was ‘met’ by the oncoming Kenedy and deflected into the back of the net via Macauly’s thigh.
Chelsea looked to seal the game off by sitting back but was punished after a quality goal from James McClean, the ball was partially cleared in the 85th minute in which the ball landed at the Irishman’s feet, where he proceeded to ping the ball into the bottom corner out of Courtois reach.
