Chelsea could face transfer ban after breaching FIFA regulations

Chelsea’s recruitment of young footballers has come under investigation after it emerged that Burkina Faso international and Chelsea forward, Bertrand Traore, played for the under 18’s when aged 16; breaching FIFA regulations.

Chelsea could face the prospect of a transfer ban if found guilty of any wrongdoing. The club believed that Traore was the subject of an option agreement allowing him to play in friendlies.

FIFA rules prohibit the international transfer of a minor – under 18- with Spanish giants Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid handed transfer bans for the next two windows after breaching the regulations. Fellow La Liga side and treble winners Barcelona, were placed in a similar embargo not so long ago.

A FIFA spokesperson told Press Association Sport,

We are not in a position to comment on any investigations that are ongoing so as not to compromise the process, nor do we provide any comments as to whether or not any investigations are under way.
