Scout Report: Miralem Pjanic

Recently it has been reported by the Times that Chelsea have opened talk with Roma over signing midfielder Miralem Pjanic, it is believed that there is a £31 million release clause in his contract which Chelsea will have no problem meeting and with wage demands of only £60,000 per week Chelsea will have no problem meeting the wage demands either.

Pjanic has played 34 games in all competitions for Roma this season often playing alongside former Chelsea player Mo Salah. Pjanic has 11 goals this season and 10 assists in all competitions this season picking up 3 man of the match awards on the way.

Pjanic’s main strengths are passing, free kicks and long shots. Pjanic would be likely to play alongside or in front of Spanish Magician Cesc Fabregas but has mostly played in the same position this season for Roma as Fabregas has for Chelsea. Pjanic is also a good dribbler of the ball and should gain time when he has it at his feet allowing players to push on ahead which can be especially effective when on the counter attack, also Pjanic is a good set piece specialist which could really benefit Chelsea especially from corners where beating the first man has been a real problem over the years. Pjanic also averages 2.5 key passes per game however Fabregas only averages 1.6.

But like every player Pjanic has weaknesses along side his strengths the most notable ones being aerial duels and tackling but sometimes has been criticised for poor discipline picking up 9 yellows and one red card this season. However Pjanic averages 1,7 fouls per game in contrast Cesc Fabregas only averages 1.1 fouls per game.

Miralem Pjanic is very similar to Cesc Fabregas and for both to fit into a system at Chelsea its likely a 4-3-3 will need to be deployed so they have protection behind them in Mikel or Matic this would also give them a lot of freedom and get the best out of them. With the 31 million release clause it would be no problem in meeting the price needed to lure Pjanic to Stamford Bridge.
