Allardyce hints at potential Terry return to national side

After controversy struck in 2012 when John Terry was accused, and later cleared, of racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand, the former English international opted to retire from international football, having appeared in 78 games for England.

That decision, though, might be reversed under Sam Allardyce as the new England manager wants to bring the Chelsea captain into international selection contention.

Asked about if he was open to a Terry return, Allardyce responded saying “Maybe so. I think it depends on what John said. Maybe if I get the opportunity, I might have to give him a ring. But until I come to that selection or that process, we’ll wait and see.”

I don’t know what the political side of that might mean, if there is a political side. I’ll have to have that conversation if I feel that John Terry may be a possibility.

England is currently going through a rebuilding phase where players such as John Stones and Raheem Sterling are taking over from an older generation of English stars in Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and the aforementioned Terry. On Sunday, Allardyce is set to announce his team to face Slovakia in a World Cup qualifier.
