When Michael Emenalo was sacked last Autumn, some of those who had been blaming Antonio Conte’s superiors for his problems in the season so far heralded it as a positive step.
Long before blame had turned to Conte, in fact way back in Jose Mourinho’s second spell at the club, plenty had turned to blaming Emenalo for issues in building the squad.
But Antonio Conte’s discussion of the situation, as quoted in the Telegraph last night, shows how far this is from the the truth.
Of course in the immediate aftermath of the departure of his overseer Conte was always going to be complimentary. But the fact that he maintains that attitude even now shows it was a genuine response.
