BREAKING: Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge redevelopment plans put on hold

Chelsea’s plans to redevelop Stamford Bridge have been put on hold, according to a statement on the club’s official website.

The statement says that all work on the stadium – from planning to construction – will be stopped because of an “unfavourable investment climate”.

It also says there is no time frame for reconsidering this decision.

It’s a titanic blow for the club, given how well things seemed to be progressing on the new stadium.

There is speculation that this is related to the recent problems that Roman Abramovich has had with his visa. He took Israeli citizenship earlier this week, but this is not without problems.

The redevelopment  of the Bridge was going to take several years, which would likely have meant the Blues playing at Wembley for an extended period.

While some fans will be pleased to avoid that, it does feel like Chelsea will now struggle to increase their income to match the Manchester clubs.
