Breaking: Frank Lampard confirmed as new Derby County manager

Former Chelsea player Frank Lampard has been confirmed as the new manager for Derby County after weeks of negotiations and has signed a three-year deal with the Championship club.

He was confirmed by Derby on Twitter with a video of him walking through the tunnel at the Pride Park stadium and exiting unto the famous grounds. The video was captioned “Lampard is a Ram. #WelcomeFrank”.

It was expected that Lampard would join Chelsea’s coaching staff as the Blues chiefs considered him for the top job at Stamford Bridge as per the Sun, but he has chosen to begin his career elsewhere at a smaller club.

Lampard enjoyed a stellar playing career with Chelsea between 2003 and 2015 where he was was arguably their greatest player in the history of the club, while also becoming the Blues’ highest scorer of all time with 211 goals.

He continued to play for New York City in the Major League Soccer before a six month stint with Manchester City in the Premier League.

The Premier League legend’s first task at Derby would be to gain promotion to the top flight, for the first time since they were relegated in 2008.
