Lots of Chelsea fans wanted Emerson Palmieri to stay in the team against Liverpool, even as Marcos Alonso returned from his three game absence.
It seemed like he might have a good chance too, given the extra pace that the Italian has as an advantage over the Spain international.
But in the end, Antonio Conte went back to his man as soon as he was available.
This disappointed those fans who wanted him to keep faith with Emerson, but it made perfect sense.
The former Roma man has only just returned from 9 months out, and after playing 3 games in two weeks, it’s no surprise it was essential he got a rest.
Alonso did well too, and he had more touches than anyone else on the team.
Now we have genuine competition in the position, that can only be a good thing. Maybe we’ll see Emerson again tomorrow night against Huddersfield?
