Fans who are worried that Chelsea are falling behind in the transfer market thanks to their limbo with regards to who will be manager next year can take some comfort.
This article in the Daily Mail is supposed to be about the impending appointment of Maurizio Sarri to replace Antonio Conte. But the most interesting line is to do with the Blues’ transfers:
“Much of the groundwork on potential new signings has already been completed, in many cases all that is left is for the manager to give the green light.
Perhaps that’s something we should have expected from a club the size of Chelsea, but it’s nice to have it confirmed. The fact that we don’t even have a director of football at the moment and we’ve still got deals lined up is good, although it means that whoever we do choose – presumably later in the summer – isn’t going to be involved in what could be the majority of the outlay this summer.
Still, the fact that a few big deals as soon as the manager has cleared them is a bit of a relief- you can’t take anything for granted in this chaos at Stamford Bridge at the moment.
