Chelsea are still battling for the top four, and they still have an FA Cup final to play under Antonio Conte, but at the same time they’re being rushed by time pressure for one of their targets.
The Daily Mail today carries details of Maurizio Sarri’s contract at Napoli, claiming that the Italian manager can be sprung from his deal for €7m – but only if the money is paid before the end of this month.
That leaves only a very short window for the Blues to make that move, unless they want all their players and their incumbent coach to know that he’s off in the summer.
Furthermore, they can’t sack Antonio Conte without having to pay him off, and he’s so far been reluctant to quit – unsurprisingly given the payoff we would be due if the club terminate his deal early.
All in all, Chelsea are in quite the sticky situation regarding their coach.
