Chelsea make concrete contact with Sarri alternative as talks drag on

Maurizio Sarri has been the front-runner for Chelsea job for so long now that it seems a given that he will get it. To read some pieces about the appointment, you would think that the ink is already dry on the deal, and it’s just a matter of announcing it.

While the Italian coach is a clear favourite, he’s not in the door just yet, and Chelsea are still looking at other options – they would be crazy not to, no matter how much they want the former Napoli boss.

SportWitness has quotes translated from France claiming that senior Chelsea board members have met with Laurent Blanc in recent days.

The Frenchman was last seen in charge of PSG two years ago, and hasn’t been a manager since.

Perhaps Chelsea are just sounding him out in case things fall through with their top option, or maybe they’re just using him to remind Chelsea fans that, in the grand scheme of things, we could do a lot lot worse than Sarri.
