Chelsea must bite bullet and pay £9m to solve ongoing issue

Yesterday’s Daily Mirror had an extended piece on Antonio Conte’s position at Chelsea, and things aren’t looking good for either party at the moment.

The end of the season is coming round fast, and after that we will be catapulted directly into World Cup fever.

By the time that’s over, it will be July, and preseason training and global tours will already be on the horizon for top teams.

That’s why it’s vitally important that these managerial situations are sorted out sooner rather than later; and that’s why Chelsea’s stalemate is so dangerous.

As the piece in the Mirror notes, Antonio Conte will not leave Chelsea because currently he has “no obvious exit route”, while the club won’t sack him as they don’t want to pay the Italian £9m for the remaining year of his contract.

It’s a sticky situation, and if one side doesn’t break soon, both will end up suffering in the long term.
