Chelsea have been rocked by the claims in Spain that Thibaut Courtois wants to leave the club on a free transfer when his deal expires next summer.
The discussion took place on “El Transistor” on main Spanish radio station Onda Cero. Radio is still the main hub for football news ahead of TV in Spain, and El Transistor is one of the biggest programs they have, so this is reliable. The claims from on air are documented here in football paper Mundo Deportivo.
Courtois’ future has been up in the air for some time as his contract nears its end. We’ve now reached a definite crossroads, if the claims are true. Chelsea will do anything to not let their asset go for free, so presumably they will be desperately offering the keeper for sale this summer.
The Belgian, on the other hand, knows he will get an immense signing on fee and wage if he is able to move on a free, so he won’t be inclined to go anywhere this summer.
