Take a look at the stats from Chelsea’s draw with Huddersfield last night and there are some things that really stand out.
For one, the player with the most shots on the team was Antonio Rudiger, with five. That’s almost a quarter of the team’s 22 in total. Second behind him was Marcos Alonso – we’re not sure if his goal even counts as a shot given it was totally involuntary, but there you go.
Two of Rudiger’s efforts were the two set piece chances he should have buried, but you can’t really blame him for shooting.
Instead you’ve got to look at the other forward players and ask why they weren’t taking a shot on more often.
Eden Hazard was very effective when he came on, but as always he preferred to work the ball in tight spaces rather than have a go himself.
Willian too was a little too fond of playing it short for someone with such a great shot on him.
The whole team should have been more decisive around the box. How many times have we said that this season?
