Chelsea fans will be excited about the club’s intentions to buy players this summer, but as has been the case for some time now, the club will have to sell before they buy, so fans should also be considering potential big-money sales as exciting too.
One position that we’re well stocked in at the moment is at centre-back, and it would make sense to move on an older player from that area of the pitch with Kurt Zouma returning from a great loan at Stoke this summer.
Gary Cahill and David Luiz are the two over 30s in that position, and it looks very likely that one or both of them will be on their way this summer. Cahill is too old to really expect a good fee for, and he also provides leadership in the dressing room.
Luiz on the other hand has just had a falling out with Antonio Conte, as the Sun reported back in December, and is still just 31, so the Blues could expect to get a decent fee for him.
For these reasons, the Brazilian appears the most likely to be moved on this summer, to raise funds for further signings.
