Chelsea’s summer has had an exceptionally slow start to their summer, and it’s worrying for everyone.
The one thing that looked certain was that Antonio Conte would get the bullet straight after the FA Cup final, but that hasn’t happened.
When Carlo Ancelotti swept into Napoli, it looked as though the now suddenly definct Maurizio Sarri was lined up to replace him. But that move has also apparently been frozen in time.
It’s difficult to work out what the hold up is at this stage. The links to Laurent Blanc yesterday have only confused things further.
It made sense for the negotiations over payoffs with both Conte and Napoli to take a few days, but surely negotiations can’t still be going on.
What could there be to argue about? It’s millions of euros, sure, but clubs are doing deals of that size all the time. Surely there’s something bigger going on behind the scenes than just quibbling over payoffs?
