Frank Lampard into the final candidates for first managerial role

The BBC have confirmed that Frank Lampard is among the candidates to take the vacant Derby job.

Lampard has been linked with several managerial roles in recent weeks, including the Ipswich and Oxford United jobs.

The former Chelsea midfielder is apparently among 20 candidates being considered to replace Gary Rowett after he left himself to take over relegated Stoke.

Lampard would be entering management at the same time as his old rival Steven Gerrard, who has taken a dramatically different job at Rangers.

39 year old Lampard has long been linked with the Chelsea job, but it has also been accepted that his best chance of landing the job would be to get some experience at a lower level.

Derby would seem a good choice. They are competing for the playoffs and have a bit of money to spend.

On the other hand, given the number of wealthy teams in the division now, they would be by no means expected to be promoted.
