Chelsea were taken apart by a dominant Newcastle team at St James’ Park.
Newcastle started very brightly and with plenty of energy and threat, first testing Thibaut Courtois with a powerful drive from Jonjo Shelvey on the volley.
The Magpies kept up the pressure and pushed Chelsea deeper and deeper, eventually scoring when Thibaut Courtois deflected an effort from Jacob Murphy into the path of Dwight Gayle.
By half time it could easily have been 2 or 3 for the home side, with Chelsea barely able to keep the ball, let alone create a chance.
Any hopes that Chelsea would improve at the break were short lived as they conceded a second and then a third within minutes of the second half.
It was a truly atrocious display from a gutless collection of players, who deserve nothing more for their ratings than a collection of synonyms for today’s showing.
