Chelsea are looking to beef up their squad ahead of a potentially tough season with several top clubs boosting their squads with top quality players, and perhaps the news that Chelsea were in line to sign Robert Lewandowski appeared surreal at first, but considering the reason the striker wants to leave the Bayern Munich, Chelsea are simply out of the equation.
The Poland international is said to want a new challenge according to his agent Pini Zahavi, via Sky Sports, and from sources in Germany, that challenge is winning the Champions League.
The 29-year old has won the Bundesliga title four times at Bayern since moving from Borussia Dortmund and now wants the big European trophy.
This is where it gets baffling. Chelsea are linked with one of the most sought after players on the planet, and some tabloids actually tip him to land at Stamford Bridge next summer, but the Blues will not play Champions League football next season. They will play Europa League instead and that may not attract Lewandowski who is linked with Real Madrid and Manchester United as well, according to the Independent.
Like Stefan Bienkowski of the New York Times and Guardian said on Twitter, Lewi will probably not move for any club without an ambition to win the Champions League.
Yeah, if Lewandowski is leaving Bayern it certainly won't be for a club that haven't got major ambitions of winning the Champions League as soon as possible. https://t.co/xwSGQNxgxm
