Pep Guardiola hails future Chelsea boss as like-minded manager

Chelsea have not yet appointed Maurizio Sarri as their new boss, but it’s already being spoken about as a done deal.

Pep Guardiola is one of those who has been asked by journalists this week what he thinks about the Italian potentially joining the Blues, and he had high praise for him.

In quotes carried on ESPN, Guardiola raved about the football played by Sarri’s teams, and said he would welcome him to the Premier League.

“If he comes to England, it would be a pleasure,” he said. “For somebody like me, who loves watching games at home on the sofa, Napoli are spectacular and his brand of football is a joy to watch.

The Catalan also stressed that Sarri’s success came in implementing an interesting pattern and style of play in Naples, and not necessarily in winning trophies – one of the main criticisms of his potential appointment is that he has yet to win anything as a manager so far.

Man City manager Guardiola also pointed out that it was not a level playing field in Italy with such a dominant Juventus in charge – Sarri was always fighting against the odds.

And if he’s good enough for Pep, he’s surely good enough for us?
