Chelsea have reportedly completed their first summer signing: Daniele Rugani from Juventus.
That’s according to Italian football journalist Adam Digby, whose tweet is embedded below. He says Italian media organisation Mediaset have confirmed a €40m deal for the defender.
According to @Sport_Mediaset, #Juventus defender Daniele Rugani has been sold to Chelsea for €40m. Good move for everyone concerned imo #CFC

It’s ridiculous. I hope it’s not true & have reservations that it is given Juve are also meant to be meeting Chelsea tomorrow about Higuain & Rugani. If it were true, for me it’s ridiculous

We’ve heard plenty of whispers about what signings Chelsea might make given Antonio Conte is still technically manager. They will want to sign players that their new manager will use, and in Rugani they clearly have someone that potential new manager Maurizio Sarri could be interested in.
In Andreas Christensen they already have one ball playing defender, but Gary Cahill isn’t too comfortable in a high line if that’s what Sarri wants to play.
Rugani is a classy Italy international who just hasn’t been able to break through at Juventus, but will have ample opportunity at Stamford Bridge, with David Luiz and Gary Cahill both reaching the end of their time at the top level.
