Chelsea’s four strikers battle for Sarri’s affection in game of musical chairs

Chelsea have four senior strikers on their books now, and still look determined to bring another one in. That will leave some spare parts, and a couple are set to leave, either on loan or permanently. Here we look at the case for each.

Alvaro Morata

The big money signing from last summer is in a tricky situation after a disappointing debut season and has been linked with moves back to Italy.
On his side he has his enormous price tag which makes him hard to sell, but counting against him he has the large number of starts he made last season without really looking like he was I improving.

Olivier Giroud

He came in to back up Morata in January and ended up stealing his place in the team. In his favour he has those strong showings at the end of last season and the World Cup, but against him he has his age and his lack of pace which doesn’t naturally suit Maurizio Sarri’s style.

Tammy Abraham

Young Tammy had a tough time at a shocking Swansea team last term, and a loan looks likely again. On the plus side for Sarri, as a young player Tammy will be happy to be just a rotation option, but counting against him is his lack of top flight goals and experience.

Michy Batshuayi

The Belgian still hasn’t come back from his World Cup holiday, but it will be interesting what Sarri makes of him. In his favour he has an excellent 6 month record at Dortmund to point to, but against him he has the evidence of some really poor showings under Conte before he went off to Germany.
