Chelsea slump to penalty loss

Chelsea lost to Arsenal on penalties in their penultimate preseason game.

The game looked set for Chelsea to win, but in the final moments Alexandre Lacazette equalised with a finish from close range, sending the game to spot kicks.

Chelsea started the game well and took the lead in the game through a thumping header from Antonio Rudiger.

The Blues then capitalised with some superb play from Callum Hudson Odoi, who burst into the box and was brought down illegally by an Arsenal player.

Alvaro Morata stepped up to take the penalty, but he struck it straight at the keeper and missed the chance to double the lead of his team.

After that, the Blues couldn’t fashion another goal, and the late equaliser meant we went straight to penalties.

Chelsea couldn’t repeat what they managed against Inter, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s miss meant the Gunners carried the day.

There were some really encouraging parts of the game though, and progress looks like it’s continuing under Maurizio Sarri.
