There were times this summer when it seemed inevitable that Eden Hazard would join Real Madrid.
As Chelsea’s managerial chaos went on and the players were off at the World Cup, it looked like it would be impossible for us to keep hold of him. But the last couple of weeks have seen everything go quiet on that front, and it’s becoming clear why.
Spanish paper Marca always have good connections at the big clubs, and they list the two main reasons that Real aren’t going all out for the Belgian anymore.
Firstly, they claim that Real aren’t willing to pay the €200m that Chelsea want for their star player. Apparently Los Blancos will only countenance an offer on that scale for Neymar, their ultimate signing.
The other reason is a player they already own – Marco Asensio. The Mallorcan sensation has waited for his turn behind Cristiano Ronaldo, and this is his time to blossom. The club from the Spanish capital are worried that signing Hazard would stunt their little gem’s progress.
