Nigerian defender puts in superb man of the match showing for loan club

Chelsea’s Kenneth Omeruo has been on loan in Turkey for several years, so people aren’t so aware of his progress.

He’s now in La Liga with Leganes, so he’s playing at a higher level, and it’s easier to keep track of him.

He played in the 1-1 draw with Sevilla at the weekend, and was given a 3/3 spades rating in Spanish paper AS’s rather odd ranking system, as well as the man of the match award.

The underdog side defended superbly against title-chasing Seville, but conceded in the final minute.

His stats for the game were superb:

With the Nigerian defender at the heart of it, this plucky Leganes side are now unbeaten in 8 games.

That’s a great record, and it’s based on the rock solid defence that our loanee is part of.

It doesn’t look like he’ll ever be good enough to start for us, but every good showing he puts in raises the already impressive fee we might get for him even further.
