Ruben Loftus-Cheek takes another huge step in campaign for first team starts

Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s three goals against BATE Borisov saw him burst back onto the scene after barely featuring at the start of this season, but yesterday’s goal will mean almost as much.

The difference was that while those three goals came as part of a second string team taking on weak opposition, the powerful finish against Fulham was in a Premier League game, and while it wasn’t the opening goal, it was an important one that killed off the game moments after Alvaro Morata had failed to do the job himself.

Also significant was the way that, with Ross Barkley out injured, Sarri went for Loftus-Cheek off the bench rather than Cesc Fabregas, who one might have expected to be the chosen one.

He got the chance today because of his performance against BATE. Could this performance in the Premier League be what he needs to get himself a proper start in the first team?
