Chelsea taking huge risk if they refuse to bend on expensive midfielders transfer fees

All the focus in the last few days has been on Chelsea’s striker situation.

Gonzalo Higuain has touched down in London, and looks set to sign on loan today. The last week or so has really been focused on his move, and the dependent transfers of Krys Piatek to Milan and Alvaro Morata to Atletico.

However now this one is all but complete, we’re left wondering what’s happening in our midfield.

Before these Higuain rumours really heated up, the focus was on our chase for a Cesc Fabregas replacement, with Nicolo Barella and Leandro Paredes the most mentioned.

Now that we’ve all but signed the striker we needed, we’re suddenly reminded that we have another gaping hole in the middle of the park, and that the rumours linking us with this potential pairing have all but gone cold.

It could be that we’ve been priced out of those moves, and will not settle for sticking with what we have. That’s a risky strategy given our main talents in that position – like Mason Mount – are out on loan. We’ve looked utterly toothless in recent games, and while adding Higuain will help, replacing Fabregas might help even more.
