Why Gonzalo Higuain will not save this Chelsea team

Chelsea were very poor against Arsenal last night as their season starts to unravel, and the impending signing of Gonzalo Higuain is being held up by fans as a potential panacea. It shouldn’t be.

In reality, while a good striker might have nicked a goal for us yesterday, it wasn’t really what made the difference.

We were so sloppy in defence, so passive in midfield, and our wide men were hardly sliding perfect balls into the box for a number nine to bang in.

If he finds form it will add a lot to our side, that’s for sure, but there are much bigger problems that need fixing soon.

It will allow Eden Hazard to return to his most effective position, which is a definite bonus, but unless solutions are found in the rest of the team, results aren’t going to change.

Whether it can be fixed just with players signed in the next two weeks is difficult to say.
