“Major boost” for Chelsea fans as surprising injury claims are made in the tabloids

Reece James went off on a stretcher against Chile for England U20s last night, needing oxygen and looking like he might have done himself serious harm.

The opinion among those observing on Twitter was that he’d done his ankle.

However the Sun go against the grain, reporting earlier today that the problem is not as bad as first feared. They describe the news as a “major boost” to Chelsea fans, and if they’re correct that he will be back in a month, they would be right in saying that.

If it were the case that he’s going to be back for the start of the season there would be dancing in the streets (of Chelsea Twitter). It’s hard to believe that it’s not pretty bad – let’s not forget how much pain he was in – but if it’s not a broken ankle or damaged ligaments, that can only be considered a good result.

His fitness for next season will also heavily affect our transfer movements this summer too. If he’s out, we may need to keep Zappacosta around. Otherwise the Italian will likely be free to go.

Fingers crossed, we await further news.
