The fuss over Christian Pulisic this week has been absolutely ridiculous.
Anyone throwing their toys out of the pram that the American isn’t starting more is having a laugh for several reasons.
Firstly, he’s is playing. He played 90 minutes a week ago. He played a couple of weeks before that. He might play tonight in the Champions League. Yes he’s not starting every game; but he’s not Danny Drinkwater 2017-2019 either.
Secondly, this is to be expected. He’s young and has arrived in a new league. He has very experienced players to compete with in Pedro and Willian, and two sensational academy talents in Mason Mount and now Callum Hudson-Odoi. He wasn’t expecting it to be easy.
Thirdly, you can’t question Lampard’s decision to play him less. He brought in more experienced players and saw better results. He’s taking risks every week introducing all manner of young players. He can’t be expected to look to the future in every position, all the time. Teams don’t function like that.
So please relax. His chances are coming, just like everyone else’s.
