Chelsea midfielder ‘in contention’ to face Newcastle tomorrow

Chelsea are preparing to take on Newcastle United in the Premier League in the 3pm kick off tomorrow and Frank Lampard has been facing the press at Cobham ahead of the big match.

The Blues are off the back of a four game winning streak and Lampard will be eager for that to continue against The Magpies on their home turf.

Newcastle will be full of confidence off the back of a 1-0 victory against Manchester United. But other than that, they hover just above the relegation zone and The Blues will be hoping to take all three points away with them this afternoon.

The Blues Croatian international Mateo Kovacic picked up a minor injury whilst on international duty last week and as a result, has been a doubt for tomorrow’s match.

But he has been successfully training with the group the last two days and now Lampard has confirmed that he is in contention to play tomorrow.

Some good news, due to N’Golo Kante being out, as reported here by The Athletic journalist Liam Twomey.
