Jermaine Jenas is not always popular with Chelsea fans when he’s a pundit, but even he couldn’t help but praise the efforts of the Blues’ midfield powerhouses today.
The former Spurs midfielder was full of praise for Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic, and on Match of the Day last night he couldn’t get enough of the way they’d “completely run the show.”
“They dictated the pace of the game, when they were going to attack, when they were going to slow it down. Simple little passes that take three players out of the game,” the former midfielder raved about the pair, who did indeed put in superb showings for Frank Lampard’s team.
“They were both in the hundreds in terms of passes made and touches, 90% in terms of accuracy of the passes and it was the regaining of the passes that was big as well, they passed the ball to each other more than any midfield pairing this season.”
If Jenas can admit it, anyone can. Both of them really seemed like they would be “Sarri” type players, but after all that they look better than ever in this new system which allows them a little more license to create, and also more chance to get into wider and more dangerous areas.
Defensively they’re doing their bit too, and the team is really functioning around them well.
