Chelsea sent scouts to watch Benfica’s Champions League group stage game against Lyon, according to the Portuguese team’s official records.
For some reason teams over there publish a list of the clubs who have requested tickets for their scouts, and you can see Chelsea on the list Wednesday night’s game – along with pretty much every other big name in Europe.
It’s no surprise. Benfica are always a talent bonanza, hoovering up the best talent from South America and importing them by the hatful.

Lyon meanwhile are a display cabinet of France’s ridiculous academy talents.
It’s not even possible to know which team our scouts were there watching, and the answer is almost certainly “both”. This was one of those Champions League games with an embarrassment of riches on both sides.
The home side earned a late win to keep their chance in the group alive, in what was an exciting game at the Estadio da Luz.
