As we finally calm down from last nights massive Chelsea victory over in Holland coming away with all three points, it’s been fun to catch up on some of the quotes from an excited bunch of Chelsea players.
Frank Lampard’s young guns more than matched a strong Ajax side that got to the Semi Finals of the Champions League last season, and came away topping the group.
One player who put in another magnificent defensive display was centre back Kurt Zouma. The France international has really stood up in the last few matches and showed what he is capable of after a stuttering start to the season.
But last night once again he was quick, strong and absolutely dominant at the back alongside Fikayo Tomori, of whom he is building up a decent partnership with.
As reported by the Chelsea website, Zouma was defiant after the game in reminding rivals that Chelsea are still here!
He said:
“We know they have a lot of energy, they run a lot and they have some good players – [Hakim] Ziyech on the right and [Dusan] Tadic the striker.
“It wasn’t easy playing in a big stadium against a team who had won their first two games [in the Champions League].
‘They were very dangerous because they can keep the ball well and you could see in the game they were playing well but tactically we were very good.
“We were compact defensively and we had some good chances to score more goals so we were delighted with the win.
“I don’t know if it’s a special win or not but we’re just happy with the three points. We’re a dangerous team to play and that’s what we want to show people.
“We wanted to send a message to everybody that Chelsea is still here, we’re still a big club and a big team. Even if we’re young, we can see the players we have are very talented – we just want to win the most games that we can and see what happens.”
