Chelsea striker linked with new exit route – but he should be expected to stay

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has been very diplomatic this season, not playing at all as Tammy Abraham has dominated the minutes up front for Frank Lampard’s team.

Going forward, it seems pretty likely a major attacking addition will be on the cards this summer too, to compete with the former youth striker. So Giroud’s pressure to leave is growing.

With more pressure comes more leaks, and nobody is better at tracking down transfer snippets than Nicolo Shira. He’s reporting that the Vancouver Whitecaps are keen to take the ageing striker off our hands.

It’s not clear whether this would be in January, but even that could be possible, if Frank Lampard is willing to continue with just Tammy and Michy for the rest of the season.

You can see the leak finder’s Tweet here:

In the summer, this looks a very real possibility, and a smart move for all involved. But until then, we think our manager will want to keep as many resources as possible around him to challenge on as many front as possible this season.

Giroud seems willing to put up with it for the rest of the season, so everyone is happy.
