Charlton Athletic's Conor Gallagher celebrates scoring his side's first goal of the game

Chelsea’s 4 goal Championship star called up for England duty

Conor Gallagher has been called up to the England U21 squad, according to a report on the official Chelsea website.

The midfielder was sent out on his first senior loan this season after so many excellent years in the youth teams. Since arriving at newly promoted Charlton Athletic in the Championship this year he’s scored 4 goals in 11 appearances, and has taken like a duck to water in the second tier.

Clearly this caught England’s attention, and having been named initially in the under 20 team, he’s been promoted to the team above after a spate of withdrawals.

This just shows how quickly he’s developing, and if he carries on like this in the Championship he’s bound to make himself a fixture in Aidy Boothroyd’s team – and hopefully one day the senior squad too.

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James have also been included, following their long injury layoffs over the summer.

Good luck everyone – please come back fit!
