Christian Pulisic is currently struggling a little for minutes at Chelsea, and he’s getting plenty of unsolicited advice from all quarters to help him through this particular sticky patch.
After starting the majority of our opening run of games, the return of Willian and Pedro to full fitness and the temporary switch to a 343 hurt his chances of gametime, and his 90 minutes against Grimsby a week ago was his first game since the September international break.
One person who is actually more qualified than most to weigh in on his issues is Jurgen Klinsmann, who not only knows what it’s like to come to the Premier League from Germany, but also coached the US national team for whom CP is a star.
In quotes carried by Football.London, the coach revealed thinks it’s just a matter of toughness and proving yourself:
“He came out of the youth system [at Dortmund], he moved himself up, he had all the support within the club and now going to London — also to one of the biggest clubs in the world — you got to bring your elbows out,” the former Spurs player mused.
“He will go through a phase now where more and more he needs to bring his elbows out to fight himself through the system there. Can he do it? Yes, absolutely he can do it, but you need to be patient too, sometimes you forget he’s a very young player,” he went on.
It’s pretty basic advice, but he’s not wrong. Pulisic can do nothing except work hard and get better. Frank Lampard will appreciate that attitude more than most.
