Former Chelsea right back Glen Johnson was on TalkSport this week, talking about the impact that the new managerial setup at the club is filtering down through the age groups.
The former right back revealed that his son is in the Under 8s team at Cobham, and even he is being watched by assistant Jody Morris at times.
That is truly admirable. We’ve heard recently that managers like Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri wouldn’t even go to watch a development squad game, so the news that Morris is still heavily invovled in the academy all the way down the ladder is a surprise.
It just goes to show that this youth revolution is not skin deep, and its not about PR. These are genuine football lovers and Chelsea fans who are in charge now, and they are practicing what they preach. Morris himself had complained before about managers not paying enough attention to his team when he was in charge of the U23s – now he is making sure that nobody can say that again.
