Frank Lampard acknowledges the areas he needs to work on

Chelsea beat Lille 2-1 last night in the Champions League group stages and Frank Lampard was very pleased with the result and a ‘really good performance’ from his players.

However, he was concerned once again how easily the opposition managed to score from a set piece, something that is proving to be the teams absolute nemesis so far this season and it is something that keeps cropping up.

This time, the zonal marking system they used failed again when Kurt Zouma completely mis-timed his jump, allowing Victor Osimhen to come in pretty much unopposed to head home.

Their was also far too much space for their attackers to run into leaving them a clear run up to attack the cross.

It’s a reoccurring problem for the Blues and something that really needs to be sorted out if they are to reduce the large amounts of goals that they are conceding this season so far.

Speaking to the Chelsea website, Lampard has acknowledged this.

He said:

“It’s such a tough place to come, anyone in the stadium would have felt that. The roof was on, the crowd were up for it, the speed in their team in a counter-attacking sense was very evident, something we had to be ready for.

“Our performance was really good. We controlled a lot of the early periods of the game, we got our goal. Set-pieces are a problem for us and we have to keep working on that even more.

“But the way we played, the chances we created away from home, the possession we had of the ball, meant we deserved to win.”
