Frank Lampard explains what Pulisic “needs to do” to get in the team

Frank Lampard has been speaking ahead of tomorrow’s game against Southampton, and the Chelsea boss was strong when asked about Christian Pulisic.

The winger has not been able to break into the first team after a couple of early starts, and that run out of the XI looks set to continue tomorrow at Southampton.

The Sun had quotes from the manager, where he basically admits from his answers that the USA international isn’t at the level he wants right now, and is up against some stiff competition to get in the team.

“What he needs to do is work daily and work to show within the group that he deserves to play,” Lampard said, after name checking all of the players that Pulisic has as competition for minutes.

Tomorrow would be a great chance to throw him into the mix, but the return of Callum Hudson-Odoi just makes it that much harder for him to get any action.

We will get more of an idea of Lampard’s thinking at 4pm today. But as it stands, it looks like more time watching from the sidelines for the summer  signing.
