Frank Lampard insists Tomori can play with Rudiger when he returns

Frank Lampard is a big fan of talking about Fikayo Tomori.

A couple of weeks ago he was asked after the Liverpool about N’Golo Kante’s performance, and while he didn’t hesitate to compliment his midfielder, he turned the question into an answer about how good Fikayo Tomori is.

He never fails to mention him when reeling off the talented youngsters in his squad, and that was the case long before he actually broke into the team.

Today in his press conference ahead of the Lille game tomorrow, Lampard’s been talking about the future of the defender once Antonio Rudiger returns from injury.

Football.London quoted him as saying:

“As far as Rudiger I don’t see it as a one for one.

“I have four very good centre backs, contesting for two or three positions and what Tomori has done is give himself a really, really good start in the race from the way he has played and now he is competing officially for one of those starting slots.”

We didn’t really need those assurances. It’s clear from his team selections that Lampard now like Rudiger and Tomori as his preferred pair, and Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma will compete to fill in in the meantime.
Until someone’s form changes dramatically, that’s the deal.
