Frustrated Jody Morris booked after odd incident on touchline

It’s been a rather frustrating opening 25 minutes for Chelsea against Ajax at the Amsterdam Arena, and it’s really showing on the faces of the team’s technical staff.

Freddie Ljungberg was booked as an Arsenal coach on Monday night, and now its Chelsea’s turn to see an assistant get a yellow. In this case it was Jody Morris, presumably for being too distracting on the touchline.

It was all a rather odd incident, although given the new rules that allow managers and coaches to be booked, we might have to come to expect a lot more of it. In truth we didn’t see what it was that Morris had done, but it can’t have been much.

The ref then made him stand up so he could be identified as the recipient, invoking further embarrassment for the former midfielder.

Getting an assistant sent off is hardly going to hurt a team much anyway. This all sees like some rather unnecessary jobsworthiness.
