The Liverpool Echo yesterday published this piece with a ton of transfer rumours in it, including the quotes from Olivier Giroud that we reported on earlier this week.
They are just pointing out that the France striker seems to be starting to angle himself towards a January move away from Chelsea as his game time reaches rock bottom. They don’t seem to have any real claim of a knowledge of interest from Everton, but it would add up.
The Toffees are the kind of team that would be interested in a veteran goalscorer with plenty of Premier League appearances to bolster their attacking options for a year or so. They’ve got the money to pay his wages too, as we’ve seen in recent windows.
So don’t be totally stunned if their interest becomes more real than this whispers. Whether Frank Lampard would be willing to let one of his three striking options go in the middle of the season – assuming they can’t sign anyone – is another question. We’re assuming not, since a single injury would reduce us to the bare bones.
But he showed with David Luiz he’s willing to cut his options down if they want out. Could that happen again?
