Olivier Giroud looked like he might leave Chelsea this summer, after another season of having to sit on the bench a lot and watch Alvaro Morata and Gonzalo Higuain struggle to find the net.
Things changed with the transfer ban however, and with nobody sure how Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi would get on, it suddenly became imperative to keep Giroud around in case he was needed.
The good news for Chelsea fans was that Tammy ended up Frank Lampard in preseason, was handed the starting role, and has not looked back since. He’s been scoring regularly, and once again OG finds himself on the outside looking in.
In quotes carried by the Metro, the forward revealed what his feelings about the whole situation were:
“I’m fine, I’ve had hard times. Now it’s not the ideal situation,” the striker mused.
“At this moment, little Tammy is walking on water. Listen, it’s hard to drop a striker when he’s successful. I am patient. I work in training. You have to keep a good state of mind. We have a lot of games to play.”
That’s a very grown up and mature attitude from the former Arsenal man, and that’s the exact reason we brought him in – to help support Tammy and our young players establish themselves as top pros. He knows he will get a chance with so many games yet to play, and he’s happy enough to wait for it.
