“Lampard will have a problem keeping him at Stamford Bridge” – Bizarre quote on striker’s transfer future from BBC pundit

Garth Crooks is a bit of a funny bloke – that’s kind of why he’s allowed a Team of the Week column on the BBC. His slightly off kilter comments and takes often generate good headlines and clicks, and this week is no different.

Chelsea’s success this season has seen plenty of Blues make the team, and Tammy Abraham has been a regular fixture. He’s the only one who makes it this season despite our dominant win over Southampton, and Crooks had a weird warning when including the forward in his weekly team.

“If Abraham continues to develop at this rate, manager Frank Lampard will have another problem on his hands – keeping him at Stamford Bridge,” Crooks mused in his column on the BBC site.

That’s just… odd. Tammy Abraham has been fighting tooth and nail in the lower divisions to get his shot at the Prem. He’s got it, is banging in goals for his boyhood club, has just got a callup for England and now… Garth Crooks thinks he’s going to try and leave?

It’s one of the stranger takes of the year, that’s for sure.
