“You never know” – Everton player leaves door open for future Chelsea transfer

Michael Keane looked like one of England’s most promising young defenders a few years ago, breaking through at Burnley and really impressing. He earned a big money move to Everton, where he has since struggled.

His best period came last year with Kurt Zouma alongside him. The Chelsea centre back was on loan at Goodison Park and made a great impression. Marco Silva, the Toffees’ manager was keen to get him back this year, but with a transfer ban in place it was all hands to the pumps for Chelsea.

In quotes carried by the Liverpool Echo, Keane revealed he asked Zouma about moving to Merseyside “a good few times” over the summer.

His conclusion on his old teammate’s status was that “he was a fantastic player… you never know in the future.”

It sounds like they haven’t given up their chances of signing him, and rightly so. When Antonio Rudiger is back, Zouma might end up as fourth choice, and a return to the North West might look very tempting.
